Congresswoman Debbie Dingell Talks About Long-Term Care for Seniors on MI Healthy Mind

TV 20 Detroit Program to Air Sunday, March 6

DETROIT, MI--(Marketwired - Feb 29, 2016) - Experts estimate that seven in 10 Americans, aged 65 and older, will need long-term services and support, and more than 20 percent of the U.S. population will be older than 65 by 2030.

On Mar. 6, 2016, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, who represents Michigan's 12th District in Congress, will be a guest on MI Healthy Mind at noon on TV 20 Detroit. She will talk about issues facing seniors and caregivers, including those that impact their mental health.

"Congresswoman Dingell also shares her personal perspective as her husband's caregiver, former Congressman John Dingell," said Millie Elston, executive producer of Relativity Communications, producers of MI Healthy Mind. "She's helping to raise awareness and introduce legislation that would benefit tens of millions of American seniors by providing affordable access to much needed services."

Bob Brown, executive director of The Senior Alliance, an Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for 34 suburban communities in southern and western Wayne County, will also guest on the upcoming show. The Senior Alliance is most widely known in the community for its Meals on Wheels program. The agency also offers a variety of services including helping seniors transition from hospital to home safely and providing valuable information to help caregivers connect with services for their loved ones.

Later in the program, Royale Theus, 35, will talk about his 10 years' experience as his mother's primary caregiver. She requires round the clock care following closed head injuries received in a tragic car accident on her way to church. He will talk about the care his mother receives five days a week PACE Southeast Michigan's day health center, enabling him to finish his college degree as a social worker and work full time.

"We feel this show is a must watch for seniors, people approaching their senior years and caregivers," added Elston.

This 30-minute interview program, which airs every Sunday at noon on TV 20 Detroit, talks openly about matters related to mental health and wellness.
