Connecting the Mind, Body and Communities -- Netsmart to Educate and Collaborate at HIMSS16 Annual Conference

Interoperability and Connected Care Gives Attendees the Opportunity to See "Whole Person" Care in Action

OVERLAND PARK, KS--(Marketwired - February 29, 2016) - Netsmart is set to showcase "whole person" care at HIMSS16, the nation's largest health information technology conference which opens Feb. 29 in Las Vegas, Nev. More than 40,000 conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit Netsmart's booth (#5057) which will highlight the theme "Connecting the Mind, Body & Communities."

"To achieve the goal of providing 'whole' person care, it's vital that we continue to tear down the silos that have long existed between mental health, physical health and addiction treatment," said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. "This is more than an opportunity to show what Netsmart can do, it's an opportunity to demonstrate what we as an industry can do together."

With its committed presence at the conference and exhibition, Netsmart is focused on:

  • Fostering synergies between technologies focused on primary care and technologies designed for providers treating mental illness, addiction and other diseases of the brain (arguably the most important organ in the body)
  • Providing solutions and services that drive interoperability, care coordination and improved outcomes
  • Providing advocacy for resources and parity for behavioral health and other health and human services providers and their clients
  • Accelerating the adoption of strategic planning tools such as the HIT Value Model™, a multidimensional, vendor-agnostic healthcare IT planning and measurement model for health and human services provider organizations

Interoperable data exchange is key to providing full spectrum, informed care. In partnership with GE Healthcare, Philips, Infor, Merge, and NANTHEALTH, Netsmart will demonstrate how providers can integrate and coordinate behavioral and physical healthcare as part of the HIMSS16 Interoperability Showcase (Booth #11954-43). The companies will present a scenario-based use case of a cancer patient with a co-occurring behavioral health disorder. This year marks Netsmart's fourth consecutive year of demonstrating whole-person care in the Interoperability Showcase.

Health Homes are a fast-emerging, outcomes-focused coordinated care entity. Netsmart client Youth Emergency Services & Shelter ( YESS ) in Des Moines, Iowa is experiencing measureable clinical and operational success since transitioning to a Health Home model of care. Results include a reduction in hospitalizations, a reduction in substance use and suicide ideation, and cost savings by moving youths out of detention centers and hospitals.

Stephen Quirk, MPP, executive director of YESS, and Larry Seltzer, general manager and senior director of Netsmart CareManager, will co-present a HIMSS Education Session, "Payment, Performance, Care Coordination and Children's Health Homes" on March 2 from 11:30 a.m. -- 12:30 p.m. PT. The session, which offers Continuing Education Credits, will focus on ways to work with the judicial system, medical providers and behavioral health communities to save time, money and keep young people out of jail and stable. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of managed care for children, be able to assess the impact of whole-person care on youth with behavioral health and medical comorbidities, and identify healthcare IT tools that support coordinated care.

Live updates from the conference will be provided on Twitter via @ Netsmarttech.
