CONNX is already contributing to the success of the Mainframe Migration Alliance (MMA) with migrations like at Harris County Hospital District (HCHD), the public health care system for the nation's third most populous county. Over the course of two years, HCHD has been migrating data to Microsoft SQL Server and replacing its mainframe application with a new clinical application from Epic Systems Corporation. As a result, the health system's DBA and development staffs are able to rapidly download mainframe data into Microsoft SQL Server with minimal impact on mainframe performance and with minimal assistance from the mainframe support staff. In addition, it has been reported that with CONNX, the quality of data loaded into the Epic Clinical System has improved. CONNX is also alleviating the pains that report generation and data extracts posed when performed with mainframe-based applications. These tasks were consuming a considerable amount of IT staff time and were very demanding on mainframe resources (MIPS), which impacted online production activities. CONNX is helping HCHD with these pains by distributing mainframe data access to non-IT staff through tools, such as Microsoft Access and Crystal Reports, reducing the turn-around time on report requests and decreasing the health system's overall reliance on those mainframe applications.
