Consider Converting Your Van to LPG Says Swinton Commercial

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug. 29, 2011) - With petrol prices continuing to rise, Swinton Commercial is offering some advice to van drivers who would like to reduce their fuel costs.

The commercial van insurance retailer is advising van drivers to consider the option of converting their engines to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) which is a low emitting carbon fuel that also has a low tax duty.

Although it can be expensive to convert an engine in the first instance, about £2,000, the long-term savings on fuel will balance this out, as LPG is much cheaper to buy than petrol or diesel. An LPG vehicle will also benefit from discounts on the London Congestion scheme.

However, there are also a few disadvantages of using LPG, not all petrol stations sell it, although the number of retailers is increasing. LPG tanks also take up a bit more room, which may affect the amount of load that can be carried.

Swinton Commercial is also advising any drivers who are considering converting to LPG to inform their van insurance provider. Most insurers do not see this as a modification so there may not be a change in insurance premiums. It is vital for van drivers to check the effect a conversion will have on their premium before committing.

Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said, "Converting to LPG is one of the many options van drivers can consider when trying to reduce their fuel costs. Anyone thinking of converting to LPG should always check with their van insurance provider first to see if there will be a change to their premium."
