Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd.: Field Work Begins on Pacific Bay's Mont-Laurier Uranium Property, Quebec

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 18, 2006) - Mr. George Sanders, President, Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:CBP), (the "Company") is pleased to announce the initiation of field work on its 100% owned Mont Laurier uranium property in southern Quebec. The 98 mineral claims represent an area of over 57 Km2 (22 mi2) located along a trend of extensive uranium mineralization in the Mont Laurier area that was explored by Canadian Johns Manville Company Ltd. and several other companies during the mid to late 70's. Company Director Ernest D. Black, P.Eng who has extensive exploration experience in Quebec is leading the field program. PacBay geologists will be initially undertaking ground scintillometer surveys, geochemical sampling and geological mapping on a reconnaissance basis over this large claim block which will lead to detailed surveys over potential target zones for trenching and drilling later in the field season.

George Sanders, President of PacBay and a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101 for the purposes of this News Release, states, "We are encouraged by Nova Uranium Corporation's diamond drilling program now underway in the same favourable metamorphic stratigraphy only 4 Km south of our claim block at Mount-Laurier. We expect to find the extension of this uranium mineralization onto our claim block based on geology, the proximity to uranium showings, and the trend of the strong airborne radiometric anomaly. PacBay's aggressive staking last year has given us a significant position in another area, southern Argentina's Patagonia region, where Mega Uranium is currently drilling in the vicinity of our large claim block that we believe contains the extension of the paleochannel that hosts the large Cerro Solo uranium deposit."

Pacific Bay Minerals explores for uranium and precious metals in North and South America, with major projects underway in Quebec and Argentina. Please visit our website www.pacificbayminerals.com for more information on all our exploration properties.

ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

George Sanders, President
