Construction Lawyer Scott Chalmers Joins King & Spalding in Houston


HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Sep 19, 2011) - Scott Chalmers, a construction and procurement specialist, has joined the global transactions practice of King & Spalding as an English law qualified foreign legal consultant in its Houston, Texas, office, the firm announced today. He joined King & Spalding from White & Case LLP (London), where he was a senior associate and specialized in large and complex international infrastructure and construction projects.

Chalmers focuses on the drafting and negotiating of construction agreements for large scale projects around the world. He advises sponsors, owners and lenders from pre-contract negotiation through contract administration and post-contract dispute resolution, and counsels clients operating in the oil and gas, petrochemical, power (nuclear, gas, coal, renewables), water, rail, road, shipbuilding, metal refining, tunneling and architectural industries. Chalmers also has significant experience with procurement in the UK, Europe and the Middle East using the Public Private Partnership and Private Finance Initiative procurement models, and with procurement under BOO (build-own-operate), BOOT (build-own-operate-transfer) and related schemes. He is also co-author of FIDIC Contracts: Law and Practice, the leading text book on the widely-used FIDIC suite of international construction contracts. To date, Chalmers has advised on transactional matters with an aggregate value in excess of US$150 billion.

Chalmers holds a law degree from Macquarie University in Australia and architecture degrees from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and the University of Newcastle, Australia.
