Construction of New Federally Funded Technology Centre Under Way at Universite de Moncton

MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - June 14, 2010) - The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), was at the Université de Moncton today to celebrate the construction of new research and teaching laboratories that will increase the university's training capacity in advanced knowledge areas. The project received a Government of Canada investment of $5 965 435 through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, as well as $8 million in additional support from the province and other sources.

"Our government is investing in research and training facilities at campuses across the country to create jobs, help our economy recover quickly and improve quality of life for Canadians," said Minister of State Moore. "This investment is promoting local employment now and will provide the research infrastructure the Université de Moncton needs for years to come."

With the construction of new research and teaching laboratories and the renovation of some existing facilities, the Université de Moncton will be in a position to build on the successes of its research and development in the fields of engineering, nutritional science and nursing.

As part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada introduced the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, a two-year $2-billion economic stimulus measure to maintain and improve research and training facilities at Canadian universities, colleges and CEGEPs. The program is providing economic stimulus, creating jobs and generating the advanced technological infrastructure needed to keep Canadian institutions at the forefront of scientific advancement and ensure economic growth in the future.
