Construction and Real Estate Development Fields Gather for a Special Reception to Benefit Scouting

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - October 7, 2010) - Prominent members of the construction industry and commercial real estate development professions will gather on Thursday, October 7th in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. This prestigious group of business leaders will meet for a cocktail reception at the Jewel Box Building located between the City National and Paul Hastings towers (525 S. Flower Street, Los Angeles) to raise funds for the Los Angeles Area Council.

As part of the festivities, James A. Thomas, Chairman and CEO of Thomas Properties Group, will be presented with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves in business, professions, and service to others. Only Scouts who earned their Eagle Scout rank a minimum of 25 years ago, and who are distinguished in their profession, are eligible for nomination. Past awardees include US Presidents, Captains of Industry, Astronauts and others who have rendered outstanding service. According to Paul Moore, LAAC Scout Executive/CEO, "Mr. Thomas has led an exemplary life in his business and community activities, making him a perfect recipient for this award."

In today's world, the children who come from challenged neighborhoods find Scouting as one of very few sources of positive role models. There are 2.73 million children in Los Angeles County and one in four of them live in poverty. The Inner City Scouting program currently serves only four percent (4%) of youth in our service area that would qualify for the program. On the other hand, there is a waiting list of schools and community organizations that are willing to organize and operate a Scouting unit under a charter with the Council -- if the Council had the manpower and financial resources to bring them on line.

According to Rob Jernigan, Event Chair, "Many of those in attendance represent those who have contributed significantly to the growth of our city, and it will be fun to see them supporting such an important program as Scouting." Jernigan, of Gensler, went on to add that the participants are all positive role models in business and in their private lives as well. The event committee includes: Leo Bandini -- Rudolph and Sletten, Richard Baptie -- Hathaway Dinwiddie, Wayne Brandt -- Wells Fargo, Keith Costanzo -- Sharpe Interior Systems, Frank Jansen -- Chicago Title, Bob Goodwin -- Goodwin Consulting, Jack Price -- KTGY Group, Ben Reiling -- Zelman Development Co., Mike Roos -- Mike Roos & Company, John Semcken -- Majestic Realty Co., Steve Sharpe -- Sharpe Interior Systems, Chuck Whitaker -- John A Martin & Associates, Mitchel Zelinger -- Tangram. Event sponsors include: Chaya, Hathaway Dinwiddie, Sharpe Interiors, Tangram, Turner Construction, Wells Fargo.

This event brings together contractors, developers, architects, investors, consultants and all senior professionals involved in design and construction of real estate properties. The cost of tickets is $250. For more event information, contact Andrea Peña at 213-4400 ext 311. The function will start at 5:30 pm.
