Construction Underway for New Habitat for Humanity Home in Prince Albert

PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2016) - A Habitat for Humanity family in Prince Albert will soon improve their quality of life through homeownership, with support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Saskatchewan and Habitat for Humanity Prince Albert.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with the Honourable Joe Hargrave, Minister of Crown Investment Corporation and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Prince Albert Carlton, on behalf of the Honourable Tina Beaudry-Mellor, Minister of Social Services and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC), and Jan Adamson, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Prince Albert, made the announcement today.

Quick facts:

• The house, a two-bedroom bungalow, is under construction at Saskatchewan Polytechnic Institute (Polytech) and will be moved to 726 17^th Street West. The main floor, when complete, will total approximately 1,000 square feet or 93 square meters. The basement will be partially finished.
• The Federal and Provincial Governments, through CMHC and SHC, are jointly contributing almost $56,000 towards the construction of the home under the 2016-2018 Social Infrastructure Fund (SIF). In total, Habitat for Humanity has been allocated $1 million in SIF Part A funding to support the construction of 18 homes in Saskatchewan - one in Duck Lake, two in Prince Albert, five in Saskatoon and 10 in Regina.
• The home is the second one built through a partnership between Habitat and Polytech in Prince Albert. The partnership will provide applied education for carpentry students while supporting affordable homeownership options in Prince Albert. Habitat will supply the materials and students will provide labour to construct the home.
• Each partner family selected by Habitat for Humanity contributes 500 partnering hours in building their home, or other Habitat homes.
