Construction Underway for New Seniors Housing in Rimbey

RIMBEY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 6, 2016) - The Governments of Canada and Alberta are celebrating the groundbreaking of a project to provide new affordable housing options for seniors in Rimbey. The 63-unit Parkland Manor is near the end of its service life and will be replaced by a new 80-unit lodge

The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, on behalf of Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with the Honourable Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing, made the announcement today.

Quick facts:

  • The Governments of Canada and Alberta contributed more than $11.1 million to Parkland Manor through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement (IAH 2011-2014).
  • The Province, though Alberta Social Housing Corporation, has provided an additional $2.1 million to the project.
  • The Rimoka Housing Foundation provides senior and social housing services in the County of Ponoka, the Town of Ponoka and the Town of Rimbey.
  • Once complete in the fall of 2017, Parkland Manor will include an on-site kitchen, dining areas, activity spaces as well as space for support services.
