Construction Underway for Two Yukon Infrastructure Projects Thanks to Government Funding

WHITEHORSE, YUKON--(Marketwired - Sept. 16, 2016) - Infrastructure Canada

The governments of Canada and Yukon are investing in wastewater infrastructure that will help create jobs and grow the middle class now while building a strong foundation for a sustainable economic future.

Work will soon begin on two infrastructure projects in Yukon: the replacement of the Haines Junction lift station and the upgrades to Faro's sewage lagoon.

The Haines Junction lift station replacement project involves the construction of a new wastewater lift station and building. The new infrastructure will help to protect the environment and ensure that residents in Haines Junction and surrounding area continue to have access to a safe wastewater system that they can rely on.

Upgrades to the Faro sewage lagoon will include structural and manhole repairs, as well as upgrades to the berms, lagoon and surrounding area. The project also involves the construction of sludge drying beds.

These projects represent important investments in municipal infrastructure that maintain safe, healthy communities. Once complete, the work will significantly improve key municipal services for residents and help boost regional development.

Through the Small Communities Fund, the governments of Canada and Yukon will continue to work in partnership to fund priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs in communities across the territory.
