Canadian consumers of all ages, communities and income levels will have general access to health and beauty advice this year, thanks to a unique program offered by Procter & Gamble Inc. (Canada) in more than 250 Wal-Mart stores throughout the country.

Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman, popular television hosts and accomplished lifestyle authorities, are co-spokespeople of the Everything for the Family, Something Just for You program and will be sharing their knowledge and expertise of the fashion and beauty industries. Wal-Mart will play host to in-store events, sample giveaways and fundraisers in support of local and national charities.

"We know that Canadian women want to look and feel great. We also know that these women are time-crunched, often managing numerous important responsibilities in the workplace, at home and in their respective families," said Sabados. "We're looking forward to offering shoppers outstanding health and beauty-care products, tailored to their budget."

Added Hyndman: "The Everything for the Family, Something Just for You program will help women fine-tune their beauty regimen to maximize what little time they have into "me" time."

Both Wal-Mart and Procter & Gamble are committing to raise an estimated $460,000 funds for various charities through this joint program. A total of at least $300,000 will go to Children's Miracle Network and its alliance of 14 hospitals in Canada. Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. Last year, the combined contributions of Procter & Gamble Inc., Wal-Mart and shoppers who participated in in-store events totaled $420,000.

"We are extremely grateful for the outstanding support generated by both of these committed Canadian companies," said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer, Children's Miracle Network, Canada. "This contribution helps to brighten and enhance the lives of more than 2.5 million children in Canada each year."

The Health and Beauty program is launched with Beautiful Breakthroughs, an event which runs from February 23 to March 18 at more than 150 Wal-Mart locations at select dates and times. Women can visit the in-store Beauty Innovation Station, where trained beauty advisors will be on hand to inform them about a host of new and exciting health- and beauty-care products. Shoppers will be able to discover how these products can meet their individual needs and, as an added bonus, they'll receive a customized gift bag loaded with product samples just for her.

From March 24 to April 15, shoppers are invited to the 5-Minute Oasis, where advisors will impart valuable product information to help women develop a simple and effective beauty routine at home. Women taking part in the Oasis will also receive the beauty-tips brochure co-written by television hosts, Sabados and Hyndman, along with gift bags containing an array of health- and beauty-care products.

"Wal-Mart has gone to great lengths to contribute to the Canadian economy and, more importantly, to our quality of life," remarked Tim Penner, President of Procter & Gamble Canada. "With some 283 stores across Canada, the retailer is committed to the development of our communities and encourages partners such as Procter & Gamble to do much of the same."
