Contemporary Calgary Announces Partnership With City of Calgary and Plans for Temporary Exhibit During the Conversion of Centennial Planetarium

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sept. 22, 2015) - Contemporary Calgary is thrilled to announce we have entered into an agreement with The City of Calgary, which will see the dream of a world class contemporary art destination become a reality. Located in the Centennial Planetarium, Contemporary Calgary is set to become a top tier cultural attraction dedicated to modern and contemporary art.

"We are delighted to develop our programming plans and arts partnerships to share with Calgarians all of the ways this project will enhance the arts scene of our city," said Erin O'Connor, Managing Director of Contemporary Calgary.

The conversion of the Planetarium building to a centre of artistic inspiration for Calgarians will take place in three phases, and Calgarians are invited to be a part of the excitement.

"Temporary Contemporary," is the first phase for Contemporary Calgary that will see doors open in the fall of 2016. As a kick-start for this new artistic hotspot in Calgary, Contemporary Calgary will be hosting a star-studded event, LOOK2015, in November that will ensure the final stages of the design and construction of the building are completed.

LOOK2015, held on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Centennial Planetarium, 701 11 St. S.W., is a fundraising event open to all Calgarians, and is presented by Holt Renfrew, The Calgary Herald, The City of Calgary and Enbridge. The event will feature keynote speaker, Adam Gopnik of the New Yorker, amidst artists attending from around the globe to present their works to attendees.

"The City of Calgary is delighted to be working with Contemporary Calgary on this transition of a heritage facility." says Sarah Iley, Manager of Culture for the City of Calgary.

All funds raised from this event, and donations during fall 2015, will support Temporary Contemporary, the first step in realizing the vision to transform the Centennial Planetarium into a significant cultural destination dedicated to modern and contemporary art and fill it with continuous exhibitions, distinguished speakers, and outreach and education programs. And that's not all, private donors will be matching donations, dollar-for-dollar, from September to November 2015 until the target fundraising goal of $1,000,000 is met.

Opportunities to purchase contemporary artwork from Canada's leading artists will be available via silent and live auctions (starting Oct. 7).
