Continuuity Unveils Free Big Data Application PaaS

Announces Public Beta of Developer Suite and Developer Sandbox to Provide End-to-End Development and Cloud Hosting for Big Data Apps

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 27, 2013) - Continuuity, the industry's first Big Data application fabric, today announced the public beta of Continuuity Developer Suite and Continuuity Developer Sandbox. Delivered as a cloud PaaS, the Continuuity AppFabric™ is an application runtime and data platform, which sits on top of open source Hadoop components. Enabling rapid application deployment, monitoring and elastic scalability, the Continuuity AppFabric allows customers to focus on their applications, not complex infrastructure. Coupled with the Developer Suite, Continuuity covers the full end-to-end application development lifecycle.

The free Developer Suite provides a fully featured SDK with an Eclipse IDE plugin, pre-built Dataset patterns to make data modeling and manipulation easy. Bundled with a single-node edition of the Continuuity AppFabric, it includes developer tools to simplify and accelerate application creation for local testing.

The Continuuity Developer Sandbox is a free, self-service instance of the Continuuity AppFabric that developers can use to deploy, manage and monitor their applications in the cloud, allowing users to experience the end-to-end Continuuity product suite. Currently in public beta, developers get access to 8 cores, 8 GB of memory and 240 GB of storage. When ready to take an application to production, developers can choose either the Continuuity Virtual Private Cloud Edition (a single tenant, hosted virtual private cloud) or the Continuuity On-Premise Edition (software layered on top of an existing Hadoop deployment), both currently in private beta.

"Developers are always looking for tools to make it faster and easier to build applications," said RedMonk analyst Donnie Berkholz. "With the public beta of Continuuity's Developer Suite and Developer Sandbox, the company is aiming directly at the barrier to entry for developers to create Big Data apps."

Continuuity Revolutionizes the Big Data Application Lifecycle, Unifying the Developer Experience
Data has become the lifeblood of companies and is increasingly where competitive advantage is created. The challenge is finding ways to reuse existing development resources to rapidly create new business opportunities without major investment. Currently, even standing up the new low-level infrastructures required to operationalize this data is a barrier to entry for most businesses.

With the release of Developer Suite and Developer Sandbox, Continuuity abstracts away infrastructure and helps make developers into Big Data developers via access to higher level APIs, sample libraries and a flexible runtime. By bridging this gap, Continuuity empowers developers to easily build, run and maintain Big Data applications, slashing time to business value and allowing companies to monetize data.

Typical use cases for the Continuuity AppFabric include Consumer Intelligence applications like social analytics, A/B testing, targeting and personalization efforts. These closed-loop applications require real-time ingestion of user or machine signals that are then processed and turned into actionable business insights and data. Other use cases center around analytics processing, machine-to-machine networks, anomaly detection and streaming analytics.

"With the combination of our Developer Suite and AppFabric editions, we accelerate time to business value, slash provisioning times, and make building Big Data apps easy and fast for any developer, " said Todd Papaioannou, co-founder and CEO at Continuuity. "Our customers can build and deploy applications in minutes and hours, not weeks or months. The public beta launch of both the Continuuity Developer Suite and Developer Sandbox will give developers the chance to experience the full end-to-end Continuuity application lifecycle. Integrated tools and cloud platforms that accelerate application development and infrastructure deployment allow companies to reuse existing development talent and rapidly monetize data with a new wave of Big Data applications. Ultimately, customers want to pay for and create business value, rather than infrastructure. These types of applications will dramatically increase the size of the Big Data market, bringing the power of Big Data to companies that might otherwise have been unable to benefit from this new wave of data."
