Contract talks between CUPE, Halifax Regional Water Commission resume today

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 24, 2012) - CUPE Local 227 and the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC) return to the bargaining table today in the hopes of averting a work stoppage.

CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh says, "Both sides have agreed to resume talks with a Conciliation Officer from the Department of Labour.

"The union Negotiating Committee will be working hard on behalf of its 225 members to avoid a disruption in service and reach a deal," says Welsh.

The HRWC workers are currently in a legal strike position, which means they can exercise their legal right to strike following 48 hours notice to the Minister of Labour.
