Convictions Under the Fisheries Act Magdalen Islands

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2010) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of Magdalen Islands fishers fined by Judge Jean-Paul Decoste on August 4, 2010, for various violations of the Fisheries Act.

The total amount of fines levied on the fishers is $11,500; in addition, one of them has been banned from Magdalen Islands lagoons for the next two years. The offenders are:

  Fishing for lobster during a closed time, possession of lobsters less
than the minimum size, fishing for lobster in a lagoon and possession
of claws separated from the thorax.
  $3,500
Ryan McLean (Îles-de-la-
Madeleine)
  Fishing for lobster without a licence, possession of lobsters less than
the minimum size, fishing for lobster in a lagoon and possession of
claws separated from the thorax.
  $2,500
Alain Poirier (Îles-de-la-
Madeleine)
  Fishing for lobster without a licence, fishing for lobster in a lagoon and
possession of claws separated from the thorax.
  $5,500 + ban on being
in a lagoon in the Magdalen
Islands for the
next two years.
