Convictions Under the Fisheries Act, Magdalen Islands


QUÉBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2011) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of Magdalen Islands fishers fined in August 2011 for violations of the Fisheries Act.

The fines imposed on the offenders total $7,950. The offenders are:

Jeannot Aucoin Non-compliance with conditions of licence for bait fishing with a trawl by fishing for plaice in a closed area and incorrectly filling out own logbook. $800
Gérald Boudreau Possession of egg-bearing female lobster. $1,000

Normand Turbide
Possession of lobsters under the minimum size. $750

The Department has a mandate to protect and conserve fishery resources. It is vigilant in its efforts to prevent poaching of marine resources.
