Convictions Under the Fisheries Act North Shore

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2010) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Québec Region, has released a list of North Shore fishers fined by Judges Louise Gallant and Lucie Morissette in June and August 2010 for various violations of the Fisheries Act.

The fishers received fines totalling $1,850. The offenders are:

Offender and home   Offence   Fine
Glen Gallichon (Sept-Îles)   Possession of Atlantic halibut below the minimum legal size of 81 cm.   $500
Henrie Langevin (Port-Cartier)   Fishing without a licence.   $750
Michel Ross (Pointe-aux-Outardes) Lucien St-Pierre (Pointe-Lebel)   Harvesting softshell clam in a closed area.   $300 each

The Department has a mandate to protect and conserve fishery resources and is ever-vigilant in its efforts to prevent poaching of marine resources.
