Convictions Under the Fisheries Act, North Shore Area


QUÉBEC, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2012) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of fishers from the North Shore area fined in September 2012 for various offences under the Fisheries Act.

The fines imposed on the offenders total $5,750. In addition, $754.82 for the proceeds from the sale was confiscated from one of them, while $68.48 for the value of the seized fish was confiscated from another. The offenders are:

Sylvain Gauthier (Baie-Trinité) Failure to weigh entire landed snow crab catch. $2,500 + confiscation of the proceeds from the sale, $754.82.
Léopold Joncas
Paul-Aimé Joncas (Blanc-Sablon)
Recreational cod fishing in a closed area. $500 each
Jacques Morneau (Les Escoumins) Non-compliance with Atlantic halibut licence conditions by keeping Atlantic halibut under the minimum legal size and landing fish without a dockside observer present. $1,250 + confiscation of the value of the seized fish, $68.48.

Jean-Paul Ross (Les Escoumins)
Harvesting softshell clam in a closed area. $500 each
