CoreTrace Granted Multi-Claim Application Whitelisting Patent by United States Patent Office
New Patent Covers Over Fifty Claims Critical to High-Security / Easy-Change Application Whitelisting
AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - November 11, 2008) - CoreTrace, the creator of
high-security / easy-change application
whitelisting, today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has
issued the company U.S. Patent No. 7,398,389, which covers 54 claims around
kernel-based network security infrastructures. The newly patented kernel
and network components of CoreTrace's award-winning application
whitelisting solution, BOUNCER, ensure integrity and full security
effectiveness by operating at the lowest level of the operating system,
unlike most security technologies which operate in the user space where
they are more susceptible to attack. This new patent further validates
CoreTrace's innovation and position as the market leader for application
whitelisting.
"Application whitelisting is the future of antivirus -- this new patent
acknowledges CoreTrace as an early pioneer and innovator of the
game-changing application whitelisting approach," said Toney Jennings, CEO
and president of CoreTrace. "Our customers are using the BOUNCER technology
to replace antiquated blacklisting solutions to more effectively and
completely protect endpoint computers. CoreTrace is the only company that
has patents on both kernel and network components, innovations that are key
to driving our leadership in the emerging application whitelisting market."
With the sophistication of today's hackers, ever-changing threats, and the
constant need for security patches, application whitelisting is quickly
becoming a viable solution and replacement method over traditional
antivirus solutions, which cannot keep pace. Leveraging a highly secure
network, and operating at the lowest possible level, in the kernel, BOUNCER
detects and stops unwanted or malicious code -- even those attempting to
run in memory like buffer overflow attacks. All network infrastructure and
kernel implementations that are covered by the patent are critical to
enable true, authenticated, "Trusted Change" that is transparent to the
user and burden-free to IT.
Based on a unique combination of security and flexibility, the BOUNCER technology from
CoreTrace has received numerous accolades from both leading IT publications
and industry analyst organizations. BOUNCER's impressive record against
rogue applications was shown in the recent Defcon "Race to Zero"
competition, where the solution stopped 100 percent of all malware created.
Unlike other application whitelisting solutions that are simply lockdown
technologies, BOUNCER's "Trusted
Change" capability enables IT professionals to predefine multiple
sources from which users can safely install applications and have them
automatically added to the whitelist -- without any further IT involvement
required.
