Corporate Responsibility Splashes Into Retailer's Heart

Special Olympics is Recipient of Swimco's Charitable Shopping Bag

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 5, 2007) - Corporate responsibility feels good these days, especially to Special Olympics Alberta, the recipient of proceeds from Swimco's new reusable shopping bag. Swimco will be donating 50cents per bag, benefiting the lives of local athletes, including swimmers, with intellectual disabilities. The bags will be sold in Swimco's 13 retail stores in Alberta and British Columbia from December 2007 until March 2008.

Swimco's reusable shopping bags began as a positive environmental initiative to reduce landfills. The project evolved into something greater with this commitment to local athletes. In addition to the 50 cents from each $2 bag sale, 50 cents will also be donated by Swimco when customers purchase over $150 and receive a bag for free.

Lori Bacon, Swimco's President and Owner, is delighted with this partnership and feels that good decisions can make positive contributions to our community including the athletes, their families, Swimco's staff, and customers.

Angela Morgan, a local BC artist, created and donated the artwork for the bag. Morgan's work celebrates humanity. "I like the idea that the funds go towards a good cause. I am thrilled to contribute in the way that I can." said Morgan. Swimco purchased Morgan's original piece even though it had been donated. Her art is about reflecting moments in time which is often what resonates with people as those are the times they cherish. The artist added, "Creating a painting about trekking off to the beach/picnic is one of those fun things we hope to get some time to do. My paintings also comment on relationships between people and in this painting I was able to create a grouping of family/friends of all ages and sizes!
