LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2012) - Who will show up on the nation's doorsteps this Halloween? Spiderman as well as 45,000 corpse brides, 13,000 pirates and 22,000 witches according to predicted children's costume sales by George at Asda this weekend.

Asda has called in extra Halloween supplies including 1,066 litres of fake blood and 1.3 million petrifying pumpkins to cope with shopper demand as sales are expected to soar ahead of Halloween.

Popular costume trends for 2012 include the ghoulish and scary to the nation's favourite blockbusting heroes. A survey of over 1,000 shoppers revealed good has triumphed over evil with 1 in 3 parents opting for Spiderman as their child's ultimate Halloween costume over witches and vampires. With other comic book classics Ironman and The Hulk coming in a close second. George has ensured the shelves will be stocked this weekend with thousands of character costumes so kids across the UK can become their favourite superhero for the night.

Competition is hotting up in the costume stakes across the country as mums compete at the school gates with 1 in 4 mums claiming their child will be the best in class.

Kids in the North have been awarded the accolade of bravest in the UK as 70% plan to trick or treat in the scariest outfits whereas children in the South have opted for the cuter, tamer costumes as sales of cats and pumpkins rocket.

Northern towns are also sending decoration sales through the roof as 'Scare-borough' has seen shoppers buying more eerie essentials than anywhere else in the UK, with a scream-tastic sale made every 15 minutes in the past week alone.

Glasgow, nicknamed 'Glas-goul', is crowned the putrid party capital of the UK, selling the most party paraphernalia in Britain with spider webs, bunting and creepy confetti proving the most popular purchases.

Russell Mott Dressing Up Buyer said: "Halloween is our busiest event after Christmas and Easter, and this year is destined to be bigger than ever. Thousands of children across the country will be heading to a Halloween party dressed as superheroes, Disney princesses, as well as the classic witch and skeleton outfits for those wanting more of an original take on the spooky season. At George we pride ourselves on selling a wide range of character dress up as well as the classic outfits that kids still adore, but with purse-friendly prices making Halloween a lot less frightful for mums!"

From gravestones and ghoul costumes to pumpkins and party props, Asda is offering its biggest range of Halloween goodies ever. For the first time this year, Asda has launched a scary one-stop shop online which has over 100,000 visitors a week as well as a scary aisle in store. Further predicted sales this weekend include:
