Axcan (TSX:AXP)(NASDAQ:AXCA) today announced that the Quebec Superior Court has issued an interim order authorizing, among other things, the holding of a special meeting of the shareholders of Axcan, at which shareholders will be asked to consider the previously-announced arrangement with an affiliate of TPG Capital, L.P.

The special meeting will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in Montreal at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal, 1050 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec, H3A 2R6, Salle Printemps.

As per the terms of the interim order, the record date for determining the shareholders entitled to receive notice of and to vote at the special meeting is the close of business on December 21, 2007.

A notice of special shareholder meeting and management proxy circular will be mailed to shareholders shortly, filed with applicable regulators and posted on Axcan's website at The circular will provide important information about the proposed transaction, as well as important information relating to voting procedures.
