CORRECTION FROM SOURCE/Birim Drilling Provides Several More Intercepts to the Chert Ridge Gold Zones

MONTREAL, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 19, 2006) - The following corrects and replaces the release sent earlier today at 10:06 am ET. The complete and corrected version follows.

Birim Goldfields Inc. (TSX:BGI) ("Birim" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that 32 reverse circulation ("RC") infill and scout drill holes (2,210 meters) have been successfully completed by Minerex Drilling Contractors Limited on the Chert Ridge Prospect at the company's Cluster Property. Assay results for 26 of the 32 holes have now been received. These results further define and confirm two zones of gold mineralization in the central area of the Chert Ridge Prospect (see map).

Highlights of the current results include:

- From Zone A with 220m strike extent currently defined -- BCC043 and BCC044 intersected 10 meters at 3.09 g/t gold and 12 meters at 2.88 g/t gold respectively.

- From Zone B with 500m strike extent currently defined -- BCC047 intersected 13 meters at 6.84 g/t gold (including 1m at 77.56 g/t gold)

Most of the drilling carried out to date has only tested these zones within 50 meters of surface. The table below further highlights 5 new significant drill hole intercepts in context with previously released intercepts that define the two mineralized zones.

Results are still awaited for the scout drilling carried out during the current campaign on two other areas on the Chert Ridge Prospect that have similar coincident geochemical and geophysical signatures. Birim's work continues to focus on the 9-kilometer extent of the Chert Ridge Prospect defined so far. In addition, previous regional soil sampling had indicated anomalism on strike to the southwest. An infill soil sampling program is currently underway to explore an additional 3.5 kilometers of strike along this prospective structure.

Drilling on the Chenchu Mountain Prospect, 19 kilometers from the Chert Ridge Prospect continues as planned. To date, 14 out of 30 RC drill holes have been completed at this target and the remainder of the holes will be completed in January after the Christmas season.

All current samples were analyzed by 50g fire assay with an AAS finish at Transworld Laboratory, located in Tarkwa, Ghana. International certified standard reference materials were inserted into the sample sequence along with blank and duplicate samples. Mr. Beau Nicholls of RSG Global Consulting, a Qualified Person under NI 43-101 standards, has independently verified the drilling, sampling and assay data reported in this release.

Notes

1. Drilling:
a. All quoted intersections were drilled using reverse circulation.
b. All intercept widths are uncorrected due to the use of reverse
circulation.
c. Drilling was generally conducted towards magnetic azimuths
ranging between 310(o) and 320(o) and scissor holes were drilled
towards 135(o) or 140(o) . Target definition and scout drill
holes were drilled at inclinations of -50(o) and - 45 (o)
respectively.
d. Down hole surveys were performed every 30 metres.

2. Assays:
a. Drill results are for 1m interval riffle split RC samples and are
quoted to 2 decimal places.
b. Laboratory sample preparation comprised of drying and jaw
crushing of a greater than2kg RC sample, followed by pulverising
of a riffle-split 2kg sub -sample. Samples were assayed at
Transworld Laboratory in Tarkwa, Ghana using 50g Fire Assay with
Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) finish.

3. QA/QC:
a. Internationally recognised standard reference materials,
duplicate samples and blank samples were routinely inserted into
the sample sequence on a 5% basis.
b. Birim applies rigorous QA/QC procedures to ensure that the
quality of the sample results plot within acceptable limits.

4. Intercepts reported are all greater than 5 gram meters and are
constrained with a 0.5 g/t lower cut-off grade, no high cut- off
grade, and up to 4m (consecutive) of internal dilution. Intercepts
of only 1 meter in width are not reported despite some containing
grade.
