CORRECTION FROM SOURCE: Employment and Training Services for Metis People in Saskatchewan to Continue due to Interim Agreement

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 22, 2006) - The following corrects and replaces the release sent earlier today at 12:40 PM EST. the phone number listed for Craig Henry, Manager, Communications, Service Canada Saskatchewan should read "(306) 564-5380" instead of "(306) 780-3218".

The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced that Metis people in Saskatchewan can continue to access the services they need to find long term employment, build stronger communities and increase self-sufficiency.

Employment and training services can now be accessed at any one of the 20 Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services offices across the province. The continuation of services is being made possible because of an interim Employment Assistance Services agreement recently signed between Service Canada and the province of Saskatchewan. The interim agreement will be in place while Service Canada concludes a formal Call for Proposals to establish a longer-term solution to meet the employment and training needs of Metis people in Saskatchewan.

"Canada's new government is committed to ensuring that Metis people in Saskatchewan can continue to access the services they need to help them prepare for and find employment," said Minister Finley. "Our mission is to build a stronger Canada, and a strong country begins with a strong labour force."

Individuals interested in employment or counselling services, or in applying for funding under the Government of Canada's Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy, should contact their nearest Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services office. Service Canada will be contacting clients directly with more information.
