CORRECTION FROM SOURCE: Halton Catholic District School Board Early Learning Professionals Vote to Join CUPE

Early Learning Professionals at the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) have voted to join the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUxPE). This week's representation vote will help ensure a successful rollout of the Province's new early learning program (ELP).

"We are very excited to have concluded this important step to making early learning a reality throughout the Region" said Steve Leavitt, CUPE National Representative.

To date, CUPE Locals across Ontario have concluded more than two dozen successful rounds of negotiations with school boards. These agreements incorporate the terms of the recently negotiated Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) agreement between the Province, school boards and the unions that represent the bulk of Ontario's school board staff.

CUPE will now enter into negotiations with the Board to ensure ECEs entering the system will enjoy the same rights and protections as early learning professionals in other jurisdictions where PDT agreements have been reached.

"With school now underway, parents can take comfort knowing that the early learning professionals we represent will be focused on the important work in the classroom, while we strive to negotiate a fair collective agreement with HCDSB," said Leavitt
