Correctional Service of Canada: Death of Inmate at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon


SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - June 4, 2012) - On June 3, 2012, inmate Donald Alexander Hay from the Regional Psychiatric Centre died of natural causes following a lengthy illness at the institution's hospital.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hay was 79 years of age and was serving an indeterminate sentence for Kidnap and Unlawfully Confine, as well as an eight year consecutive sentence for Sexual Intercourse with a Female Under the Age of 14. His sentence had commenced on February 3, 1977.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
