Correctional Service Canada: Death of Inmate of the Regional Psychiatric Centre


SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2013) - On January 20, 2013, inmate Kinew JAMES from the Regional Psychiatric Centre was found unresponsive in her cell. Life-saving measures were taken and an ambulance was called.

The inmate was transported to outside hospital where she was later declared deceased.

At the time of her death, Ms. JAMES, age 35 was serving a sentence of 15 years, 4 months and 29 days for manslaughter, assault, uttering threats, arson, mischief and obstruction of justice. Her sentence had commenced on March 24, 1998.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
