Correctional Service of Canada: Inmate Escape from Escorted Temporary Absence: Offender Robert Norman GRAY

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 7, 2005) - Sometime after midnight on Saturday September 3, 2005, Offender Robert Gray was discovered missing while on an Escorted Temporary Absence from the Stan Daniels Healing Centre in Edmonton, AB. The offender was on a pass to Winnipeg, Manitoba visiting family at the time and was being accompanied by a community volunteer. Police Services in Edmonton and Winnipeg were notified.

Offender Robert Gray is 36 years old serving a life sentence for Manslaughter. His sentence commenced on December 14, 1988. He was eligible for Full Parole on November 18, 1994. He is Caucasian and has a medium complexion, shortly cropped brown hair, and brown eyes. He has a scar above his right eye.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Offender Gray is asked to contact police.

The Stan Daniels Healing Center is operated and staffed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) and is located at 9516 101 Avenue in downtown Edmonton. NCSA provides a range of spiritual and correctional programs to both offenders on conditional release and minimum security inmates through agreement with the Solicitor General of Canada. At the time of the incident, there were 31 inmates and 32 conditionally released offenders residing at the Stan Daniels Healing Center.

The Correctional Service of Canada and Native Counselling Services of Alberta will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
