Correctional Service of Canada: Contraband Seizures at Stony Mountain Institution

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2011) - Over the last one month period, Stony Mountain Institution has intercepted an increasing number of drug "throw-overs". In total, over $47,000 worth of marijuana, hashish, cocaine, and pharmaceuticals has been seized from attempts to throw packages into the institution's exercise yard. The most recent seizures were made on September 18th, 19th, and 21st, 2011.

CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in its efforts to control the flow of drugs into institutions. These include searches of offenders and visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs, and searches of buildings and cells.

Stony Mountain Institution wishes to remind citizens that there is a confidential Security Intelligence Tip Line at (204) 344-6000, for reporting concerns regarding institutional drug trafficking. In addition, Stony Mountain Institution has a Suspicious Activity Tip Line at (204) 344-7132 which can be used by members of the community to immediately report suspicious activity on the institutional perimeter.

Stony Mountain Institution is a federal institution for medium security inmates located 11 kilometers north of Winnipeg. There are currently 588 inmates at the facility.
