Correctional Service of Canada: Death of Inmate at Drumheller Institution


DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 13, 2011) - On December 12, 2011, inmate Dang Akays Dang from Drumheller Institution was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.

The inmate was taken to the Drumheller General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Dang, 27 years old, was serving a 2 year sentence for Possession of Schedule I/II Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking. His sentence commenced on August 23, 2010.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
