Correctional Service of Canada: Escape From Bowden Institution Farm Annex

INNISFAIL, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 19, 2008) - At approximately 10:30 p.m. on December 18, 2008, staff determined that inmate Michael Rudolph Horyn had escaped from the Bowden Institution Farm Annex, a minimum-security facility adjacent to the Bowden Institution.

Staff conducted a search of the facility and surrounding property. Concurrently, the Innisfail Branch of the RCMP were notified and attended the site. Inmate Horyn was apprehended without incident. RCMP took him into custody and he faces new charges for escaping lawful custody.

Micheal Rudolph Horyn is a 41-year-old Caucasian male serving an 11-year sentence from October, 2003 for numerous property offences as well as Assault and Extortion.

Only those offenders who are assessed as having a low risk to public safety are placed in a minimum-security facility.

The Correctional Service of Canada is committed to working with our local law enforcement agencies and will review the circumstances surrounding the escape and take all necessary measures.

Bowden Institution is a federal institution located between Calgary and Red Deer on the QE 2 Highway.
