Correctional Service of Canada: Lockdown at Bowden Institution


INNISFAIL, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 21, 2011) - On Saturday, May 21, 2011 at approximately 10:00 a.m. the Warden of Bowden Institution authorized a lockdown of the institution to perform an exceptional search.

The search is being conducted to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates as a result of ongoing observations and intelligence during the last 24 hours. Inmate visits have been cancelled and the institutional routine restricted for the duration of the lockdown. The institution will return to normal routine when the Warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so. Visitors are advised to contact the institution in advance of attending.

Bowden Institution is a federal penitentiary located between Innisfail and Bowden, Alberta. Currently, there are 588 offenders located at the medium security facility and 74 at the minimum security annex.
