Correctional Service of Canada: Lockdown at Stony Mountain Institution

STONY MOUNTAIN, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Aug. 16, 2011) - On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Stony Mountain Institution was placed on lockdown to facilitate a search of all ranges. The search is being conducted as part of the institutional search plan and in response to security intelligence information received in the last 24 hours.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

All visits have been cancelled pending completion of the search. The Institution will return to normal operations once the Warden determines it is safe to do so.

Stony Mountain Institution is a medium security federal penitentiary located 11 km north of Winnipeg, currently accommodating 596 inmates.
