Correctional Service of Canada: Two Change of Command Ceremonies in Edmonton

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2012) - Today, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) held two Change of Command Ceremonies in Edmonton.

Edmonton Institution marked the change in command from the outgoing Warden Ron Boutin to the incoming Warden Kelly Hartle.

Alberta-Northwest Territories Parole District marked a change in command from outgoing District Director Jan Fox to incoming District Director Cindy Gee.

These ceremonies highlight the importance of being the leader of an institution or parole district and the responsibilities associated with taking on the role of a Warden or District Director. It provides CSC with a valuable opportunity to gather together and witness the passing of responsibility for the safety and security of staff, offenders and the community from one person to another.

"In many ways these are symbolic events, but it's important to note that for the newly appointed leader, it represents their pledge to ensure that every decision they make respects CSC's Mission, the rule of law, and the rights of staff and inmates," said Brenda LePage, Regional Deputy Commissioner. "Every change in leadership brings new thinking and new opportunities for growth and I am very pleased to be here to help to commemorate these events," added Ms.LePage.

The Change of Command Ceremony is an important tradition for CSC that allows staff to witness the passing of responsibility from one leader to another as part of its focus on pride and tradition. It is also an opportunity for the organization to celebrate its traditions and reaffirms the incoming leader's commitment to enhancing public safety results for Canadians.
