Correctional Services of Canada: Inmate Murder at
Stony Mountain Institution

STONY MOUNTAIN INSTITUTION, MANITOBA--(CCNMatthews - March 21, 2005) -
At approximately 22:45 hrs on March 20, 2005 Correctional Officers found
an inmate who had been severely assaulted.

An ambulance was immediately called and the inmate was taken to the
Institutional Health Care Centre. Paramedics attended and the inmate was
pronounced dead.

RCMP and the coroner were called and attended to the institution. The
death will be the focus of both an RCMP and a CSC investigation.

The identity of the deceased inmate is not being released at this time,
until the next of kin has been notified.

There are no other reported inmate injuries. The institution is
currently calm and locked down.

Stony Mountain Institution is a medium security federal penitentiary
located 11 km north of Winnipeg. Currently there are 526 inmates
incarcerated at Stony Mountain Institution.
