Cortina Systems® CS4322/23 Enables Next Generation 10G/40G Backplanes With Proven KR Compliance

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 14, 2011) - Cortina Systems, Inc. (Cortina), delivering innovative technologies that link people and networks worldwide, today announced the completion of UNH compliance testing for 10GBASE-KR, which operates over a single backplane. The Cortina Systems® CS4322/23 Quad KR/KR4 PHY is a 4 port 10G/40G backplane PHY, which incorporates the latest standards and technologies. The CS4322/23 solution integrates a 1+1 switch into the PHY thus reducing BOM cost and board space while maintaining interoperability and full compliance to KR and KR4 standards.

"The density and port counts on switches are increasing, requiring the backplanes to move to 10G, 40G, and faster. "By passing UNH testing, the CS4322 can guarantee interoperability with all other Physical Layer devices across the backplane."

The CS4322/23 includes a fully standards-compliant 3 tap transmit de-emphasis, and its receiver equalizer exceeds the receiver performance requirements of KR/KR4 standards with margin. The device is fully autonomous and does not require external processors to control the auto negotiation and training or equalizer adaptation. This device supports 10GBASE-KR and 40GBASE-KR4 operation with rate auto negotiation and coefficient training functionality. The integrated 10GBASE-KR FEC includes advanced debug and monitoring capabilities.
