Corwin Author Joins Education Leaders at TOWN HALL LA's Education Reform Conference

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwire - August 5, 2009) - Corwin author Ellen Moir was among local and national leaders in education who participated in "2001-2101: The Education Century? Rebuilding Our Economy through Education Reform," a one-day conference co-hosted on July 14, 2009, by Corwin and TOWN HALL Los Angeles.

"We believe that providing a relevant education to meet the demands of the 21st century is one of the most critical tests we face as partners in education," says Leigh Peake, President of Corwin. "Through dialogues such as these, we can unite our efforts and make decisions that will best serve each and every child in our school systems."

The day's schedule included three panel discussions and a keynote address delivered by The Honorable Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, California. Ellen Moir, Executive Director, The New Teacher Center, participated in the panel "The 21st Century Workforce" with Lisa Barrett, Partner, Teaching Fellow Programs, The New Teacher Project; and Matthew Kramer, President and Chief Program Officer, Teach for America.

Other panelists included Angela Bass, Superintendent of Instruction, LAUSD; Dr. Paul F. Cummins, Executive Director, New Visions Foundation; Dr. Gary Mangiofico, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles Universal Preschool; Dr. Peggy O'Brien, Chief of Family and Public Engagement, Chief Communications Officer, District of Columbia Public Schools; The Honorable Paul Pastorek, State Superintendent of Education, Louisiana; and Michael Piscal, Founder and CEO, ICEF Public Schools.

Moderators were Eli Broad, Founder, The Broad Foundations; Frances Lapides, Co-chair, Education Study Committee, League of Women Voters of Los Angeles; and Jed Wallace, President, California Charter Schools.
