Cosmetology Meets Technology as Students at Empire Beauty Schools® Move to Tablets

Philadelphia Area Students Can Now Choose an Apple iPad® or Samsung Galaxy Note® as Part of Their Student Kit

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - February 04, 2014) - Empire Beauty School students are adding one more tool to their styling kits. Now, along with blow dryers, flat irons, and clippers, these future beauty professionals will be learning cosmetology with the use of a smart device.

Empire is now offering its exclusive curriculum to students via download onto an Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Note. Students can use their own smart device, or receive one as part of their student kit. Like traditional textbooks, the cost is included in the price of the student's kit and the device is theirs to keep.

"We want to provide our students with the tools that will aid in their future success," says Frank Schoeneman, Chairman and CEO of Empire Education Group. "These smart devices are not only a way to access our interactive textbooks, but they also allow students to easily begin marketing themselves as a stylist. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are valuable tools for stylists to showcase their work and begin building a clientele."

Empire is also offering access to their student portal from the device, where students can keep track of everything from their grades and hours to their financial aid.

Empire is currently offering smart devices in a handful of its markets, with intentions on taking the program system wide. The downloadable books will work in conjunction with smart board technology already in all of Empire's classrooms.

"We believe this is truly the future of education." says Schoeneman. "Of course cosmetology is a technical skill that we will always teach in a hands-on, interactive way. However, we feel we are doing our students a disservice if we do not embrace technology and teach them how it can aid in their success, both in the classroom and on the salon floor."

Empire Education Group is headquartered in Pottsville, PA. It is the largest centrally owned and operated beauty school system in the country with 110 schools in 21 states.

Along with offering the smart devices as part of the student kit, Empire is also incorporating the use of tablets into their student salons for customer surveys and other services.
