Cotap Enhances Data Security With Launch of Cotap Clear

New Security Feature Allows Companies to Set Custom Message Lifespans and Shortens the Default to 14 Days, Reducing the Risk of Significant Data Leaks

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - June 30, 2015) - Cotap, an enterprise mobile messaging service, today announced the launch of Cotap Clear, a feature that gives control over data security directly to its customers and users. Instead of storing messages infinitely, Cotap messages are now automatically and securely deleted after 14 days. However, users have the option to export conversations at any time if they wish to keep a long-term record.

Cotap Clear also gives customers the flexibility to set custom message lifespans on a group-by-group basis. For example, a company's Executive group messages can be set to expire after seven days, while the Marketing group messages can be set to expire after 30 days. Companies have a wide range of options to select from and message expiration can be changed at any time by a Cotap admin.

Cotap Clear presents a major departure from the enterprise software industry default of storing data forever, which leaves users at risk of having their work communications leaked by hackers. Last year, U.S. News and World Report reported that, "Hacking increased so much this past year that approximately half of U.S. adults had their information stolen." And according to analyst firm Gartner, companies are responding to the increased threat of attack: "by 2018, 40 percent of large enterprises will have formal plans to address aggressive cybersecurity business disruption attacks, up from zero percent in 2015."

"We've seen high-profile attacks on companies such as Sony, Target, Anthem and even the US Government in recent months, and the frequency of attacks is only increasing. Cotap Clear helps security-conscious companies prevent large-scale leaks of sensitive communications and gives them complete control over their data," said Jim Patterson, co-founder and CEO, Cotap. "Moreover, limiting the amount of time messages remain by default keeps our users more secure against attack. Our data shows that users rarely scroll back more than two weeks to search for information, making our default message lifespan the perfect marriage between security and usability. It's more like the digital equivalent of having a face-to-face conversation."

Cotap Clear is available immediately. For more information about Cotap's security features, please visit: https://www.cotap.com/security/
