Couchio Announces Hosted CouchDB Beta Program

Offers Support to Accelerate Adoption of Cloud-Based NoSQL Database

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwire - May 25, 2010) -  Couchio (, corporate sponsor of the CouchDB post-relational database, today announced the launch of their hosted CouchDB beta program. The program is specifically suited for two audiences -- developers and people who want to store personal data.

Apache CouchDB is a free and open source document-oriented database. Unlike MySQL or Oracle, it is a post-relational database that is specifically designed for replication for disconnected use and has the ability to scale vertically along a wide range of devices.

"We wanted to create a low friction environment for users to get started with CouchDB and get a managed experience," said Damien Katz, creator of CouchDB and CEO of Couchio. "The hosted CouchDB beta program is the first step towards making CouchDB easier to use for an even wider audience."

Beta program participants are limited to 200 and will be selected by Couchio. Throughout the program period, beta testers will be encouraged to join the Couchio forums where company engineers and users will be discussing how to improve the hosting platform.

During the private beta, hosting is provided free of charge. Beta customers will be offered special discounts once the program ends. For more information or to apply for consideration, visit

About Couchio

Couchio (, co-founded by the creator of Apache CouchDB, is the commercial CouchDB company providing services, support, training and hosting. CouchDB is an open source database designed for the reporting and storage of large amounts of semi-structured, document oriented data, unlike SQL databases which store and report on very structured and correlated data. CouchDB changes the way document-based applications are built, benefiting from the cloud while also keeping data available at the network edges via replication. Couchio has received venture funding from Redpoint Ventures.
