Council of Better Business Bureaus and ScanAlert to Enhance and Certify Data Security for Retailers

ARLINGTON, VA and NAPA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 11, 2006 -- The Better Business Bureau's BBBOnLine seal program and ScanAlert, the world's largest web site security certification company, announced today that they are working together to enhance and certify the security of BBBOnLine's 29,000+ Reliability seal program members. Effective immediately, BBBOnLine seal holders can obtain free services to meet the Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standard as well as discounted pricing on ScanAlert's HACKER SAFE® certification service.

"Protecting customer data and helping to reduce identity theft is everybody's business," said Steve Salter, Vice President of BBBOnLine at the Council of Better Business Bureaus. "The BBB has protected consumers and businesses for over 90 years offline, and this is an extension of our programs to do so on the Internet."

"Privacy and security are really two sides of the same coin and this agreement amplifies the value of two of the most reputable and visible trustmarks on the Web today," noted ScanAlert CEO Ken Leonard. "HACKER SAFE certification and the BBBOnLine Reliability program are highly complementary because they increase security, visitor peace of mind and site transactions."

"We think the HACKER SAFE/BBBOnLine combination offers the reassurance needed to increase consumer trust and confidence in buying on the web," Salter added.

Certification to the PCI Standard

BBBOnLine Reliability program members will have access at no charge to the same services and features that ScanAlert provides in 72 countries on behalf of Visa International. Enrollment is through a special BBBOnLine branded portal operated by ScanAlert. ScanAlert's PCI service includes everything merchants need to be certified, including an interactive Self Assessment Questionnaire form, network discovery scans, scheduled quarterly security scans of up to 6 IP addresses, unlimited manual scans, and complete technical support.

Pricing

BBBOnLine will offer ScanAlert's PCI compliance service to all Reliability seal program members at no cost for one year. Any current BBBOnLine Reliability seal holders that purchase an annual HACKER SAFE subscription will receive from ScanAlert a $345 rebate for each year they continue with the HACKER SAFE service. Additionally, HACKER SAFE subscribers that join BBBOnLine will receive the same rebate.

About HACKER SAFE Certification

As long as a site remains secure, ScanAlert continually serves a HACKER SAFE certification mark directly to the retailer's web site from ScanAlert's network. In scientific testing by more than 400 retailers, including national chain stores, HACKER SAFE certification increased sales conversion an average of 14%.
