Council for Court Excellence Selects Deborah Luxenberg for Horsky Award

Ms. Luxenberg Recognized for Exemplary Contributions During Eight-Year Tenure on Council's Executive Committee

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 20, 2009) - Luxenberg, Johnson & Dickens, PC, announced today that Deborah Luxenberg received the Charles A. Horsky award from the Washington D.C. Council for Court Excellence (CCE). The award is named after the Council's founder who devoted his career to extensive public service and pro bono activities, including arguing landmark civil rights cases before the Supreme Court and assisting in the prosecution of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Ms. Luxenberg was selected for her exemplary contributions to the Council as the chair of CCE's Children in the Courts Committee from 2001-2009. From 2002-2009, she also served on the CCE Executive Committee.

While chair of CCE's Children in the Courts Committee, Ms. Luxenberg worked closely with CCE members and staff surrounding the passage of the then-controversial Family Court Act, including testifying in the House and Senate. The hard work and dedication of the CCE team led to the nearly unanimous passage of the act.

Ms. Luxenberg contributed to many significant achievements by CCE and the Children in the Courts Committee during her tenure, including moderating a panel to advertise new Associate and Magistrate Judge positions authorized by the Family Court Act. She also oversaw the research, writing and publication of numerous reports, including the most recent third edition of CCE's Practice Manual for Child Abuse and Neglect Cases.

Since the start of her career she has worked on the development and reform of family law. In addition to her work with CCE, Ms. Luxenberg has been involved with many important legal organizations, serving in leadership roles in the recent past, including President, Vice President and Secretary of the local chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Chair of the Domestic Relations Committee of the Bar Association of DC, and Chair of the Family Section of the DC Bar.

Ms. Luxenberg has represented families across the Metropolitan D.C. region for more than 30 years, and has remained intensely committed to clients and their children. She is highly trained and experienced in collaborative law, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, negotiation and litigation.
