Countdown Begins for the 9th Annual Cedars CanSupport 'Rain or Shine' Dragon Boat Race and Festival

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 7, 2014) - The countdown to the 9^th Annual Cedars CanSupport 'Rain or Shine' Dragon Boat Race and Festival, presented by Fuller Landau, is officially on. Event organizers held a launch party for the festival last night to welcome new participants and get returning ones excited for the upcoming race.

"The launch party is something we look forward to every year, it sets the tone for the September event and gets us all on the same page," said Michael Newton, Managing Partner of Fuller Landau, presenting sponsor for the event, which is also fielding two boats. "Being reunited and together under one roof with our paddlers created a buzz in the air. We're so excited to take part again this year!"

This year's festival itself will be held on Saturday, September 20^th with a goal is to raise more than $600,000 for the CanSupport program at the Cedars Cancer Institute, which provides free psychosocial, practical and humanitarian assistance for cancer patients and their families. At least 40 colourful dragon boats, propelled by more than 800 participants, are expected take to the Lachine Canal, some coming from as far away as Ottawa, Ontario and Harrington, Quebec.

"A $750 commitment per participant on a 20-person boat is what it takes to join the fun and make a difference in the lives of many," said Gwen Andrews Nacos, Director and Founder of Cedars CanSupport. "Many Canadians are facing a personal trial related to cancer. Saying yes to a day of fun, camaraderie and healthy competition is an easy and rewarding choice for participants, myself included."

The Launch Party also formally announced the Cedars CanSupport 25^th Anniversary Tribute Evening, which will take place on Thursday, September 18^th and will celebrate 25 years of CanSupport.

Founded in 2006, the CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival has raised over $3-million to date. Fuller Landau has been the presenting sponsor of the event since 2008 and had some 40 employees participating in the race last year.
