Countdown to the J.C. (Jack) Anderson Charity Auto Auction Begins

OLDS, AB--(Marketwired - June 14, 2013) -  Over one hundred vintage cars and trucks donated by J.C. (Jack) Anderson are now ready to be auctioned off to celebrate and support the Olds College 100th Anniversary. In a convoy of 60 trucks and trailers driven by dedicated volunteers, the collection was moved today from its temporary home in Airdrie, Alta., to the Cow Palace in Olds, where the auction will take place on Sunday, June 23. The auction, conducted by Michener Allen Auctions, begins at 10 a.m. Bidders can register at and may participate in person, by phone or online.

Cheers ran through the crowd as the last of the trailers arrived at the Agricultural Society Cow Palace in Olds, Alta., 45 minutes north of Calgary, Alta., carrying the fully restored collection. The countdown is officially on -- only seven days until the weekend of the J.C. (Jack) Anderson Charity Auto Auction begins!

Olds College President, Dr. H.J. (Tom) Thompson explains what this donation has meant to the College, "This donation is about more than steel and rubber. It is about the legacy Mr. Anderson is leaving to the college and to generations of students in the years to come. Centennial has allowed us to celebrate an incredible milestone for an institution that is founded on the solid and lasting base of admirable values that bind us together as a community and inspires our students, staff, faculty and alumni."

Every Saturday since November 2012, volunteers have spent countless hours cleaning, detailing and restoring the vintage automobiles and making sure they all start, run and stop. In one week their hard work is going to pay off and the Olds College Centennial Entrepreneurial Legacy Fund may receive upwards of $2 million dollars in proceeds from the auction.

The eclectic collection includes a 1936 Hupmobile, a 1956 Corvette (dual carb) (convertible hard and soft top), a 1956 Jaguar XK140, and a 1930 Circa Model A -- the "original" car from the Broadway musical Show Boat.

The auction weekend will kick off on Friday, June 21 with a public viewing of the collection. Saturday is full of centennial celebrations, beginning at 10 a.m. with a trade show and a show-and-shine followed by a community cruise event and a dinner and dance fundraiser.
