Covanta Releases "Sort n' Toss" Recycling Game for Apple and Android Devices

Game Helps to Promote the Importance of Recycling

MORRISTOWN, NJ--(Marketwired - Apr 22, 2014) -  This Earth Day, taking out the trash and recycling has never been more fun for Apple and Android device users. Covanta, a world leader in sustainable waste management and renewable energy, has released a recycling game app called, "Sort n' Toss." The fun and challenging game calls for users to toss recycling and trash into the appropriate bins while emphasizing the importance of the four Rs -- reduce, reuse, recycle and recover energy-from-waste.

Players find themselves curbside and faced with five different bins. Then, presented with one recyclable or waste item at a time, including apple cores, pizza boxes, cell phones, plastic bottles and more, they must pitch the item into the properly labeled bin by aiming and then swiping their finger against the screen. Points are gained and lost depending on the accuracy of the toss and whether the item lands in the correct bin.

Sort n' Toss follows Covanta's wildly popular Crane Game app, which is also now available for Android as well as Apple devices. The Crane Game brings the Energy-from-Waste process to life as players control a crane to transfer waste from a holding pit into a combustion chamber where renewable energy is generated. Players must make sure to avoid throwing in recyclables, electronics, and other items that should be properly recycled. An updated version of The Crane Game is being deployed with Sort n' Toss and now includes time-sapping penalties like Slo-Mo and Out to Lunch, as well as "power-up" opportunities including Mega Claw and Delivery Freeze. The Crane Game has received over 115,000 downloads to date.
