Coveted King Crab Will Reign Supreme at WP24 Restaurant in The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles

Wolfgang Puck's Downtown LA Restaurant to Offer Live Alaskan King Crab Menu this October

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2014) - In celebration of Alaskan king crab season and National Seafood Month, WP24 Restaurant -- Wolfgang Puck's fine dining venue at The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles -- will offer a special Alaskan King Crab Menu throughout the month of October.

The evening begins with tableside presentation of the live crustacean in traditional Asian fashion as a guarantee of freshness before preparation by Chef de Cuisine John Lechleidner. The five-course menu features four courses abundant in red king crab and finishes with a sweet finale (full menu below). The menu is priced at $800 USD, exclusive of alcohol and gratuity, and serves four to six diners.

To further enhance the LA luxury dining experience, an optional wine pairing is available with selections to match the sweet and succulent crab meat. One king crab is ideally shared among four to six guests; additional crabs can be ordered for larger groups at a supplemental cost.

The Alaskan king crab season starts in October and can run as late as January, depending on the harvest. Most king crabs are caught from the Bering Sea off the coasts of both Alaska and Russia, under icy, turbulent sea conditions considered to be some of the most dangerous in the world. Golden king crabs come from waters as deep as 1,600 feet, while red and blue king crabs prefer shallower seas. All types of king crab are coveted for their massive legs, which can be up to an inch-and-half thick, three feet long and weighing from one to three pounds.

Alaskan King Crab Menu courses include the following:

  • First course: Hot and Sour soup with king crab, silken tofu, scallion and sesame oil
  • Second course: King Crab & Scallop Sui Mai with ginger king crab sauce, cilantro and chive
  • Third course: Salt & Pepper King Crab with chilies, garlic, scallion, cilantro and king crab XO rice (served in the shell)
  • Fourth course: Six Chili King Crab with garlic, bean sprouts, red onion, cilantro and king crab chow fun noodles
  • Fifth course: Red Cooked Pineapple Cheesecake with lemongrass, passion fruit and coconut
