CPA Launches 'Text to Park' Feature for the ParkPlus System

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 22, 2012) - The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) is launching Text to Park, a faster and more convenient way to start and end a parking session in Calgary. Customers can use the new feature to pay for parking on-street in ParkPlus zones, and in CPA parkades and surface lots. To use Text to Park, ParkPlus cell phone account customers text the four-digit ParkPlus zone number to 77587 (PPLUS).

"Text to Park is a great new feature to the ParkPlus System and makes activating and deactivating a parking session even easier for Calgarians," said Troy McLeod, General Manager. "We're continuing to look for new ways to use technology to make parking faster and more convenient for our customers."

Once they have parked, customers simply text the four-digit ParkPlus zone number they are parked in to 77587. The ParkPlus System will send a confirmation text to notify parkers that their parking session has been successfully activated and provide the date and time the parking session expires.

After returning to their vehicle, customers text the zone number again to 77587 to deactivate their parking session. By deactivating a parking session, customers only pay for the time they have actually parked. Customers can continue to pay for parking by calling ParkPlus at 403-537-7275 and listening to the voice prompts.

To use this feature, a ParkPlus cell phone account is required. To sign up for an account, go to www.parkplus.ca, click on Create Account and follow the instructions.

ParkPlus cell phone account holders receive several benefits including only paying for the time they are parked, receiving phone or email notifications when their time is about to expire, and a detailed account of their parking activity for up to four months. ParkPlus cell phone accounts do not have any administrative fees, therefore 100 per cent of funds added to an account are used to pay for parking.

  • There are 1,142 ParkPlus parking zones.
  • There are over 43,997 ParkPlus cell phone accounts with over 63,000 unique cell phone numbers and 71,000 vehicle license plates on file.

About the Calgary Parking Authority

The Calgary Parking Authority fulfills the City of Calgary's parking mandates and implements the municipality's parking policies by managing on and off-street public parking facilities, enforcement programs and by providing parking advisory services. Each year the CPA contributes a portion of its net revenue to the City. In 2011, CPA contributed $19M in revenue and $7M in municipal taxes to the City. In addition, the CPA spends $1M administering the residential parking permit program at no cost to taxpayers and operates parking enforcement services and the municipal impound lot on a break-even basis. The CPA operates without using any municipal tax revenues.
