CPAs Holding Free Tax Clinics in Thunder Bay

Multicultural Association hosts clinics to help low-income residents

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 10, 2014) - Volunteer Thunder Bay Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) are holding a series of Free CPA Tax Clinics for residents with low incomes on March 11 and 12. As part of their commitment to the community, CPAs are working with the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association to help people by doing their taxes free of charge.

To qualify for this free tax return assistance, individuals must have a total household income that is less than $30,000 with dependents or less than $20,000 without dependents. People who qualify can book an appointment at these clinics by calling 345-0551.

Free CPA Tax Clinics are a tradition for Chartered Professional Accountants that date back to 1969. Today, they're held across Ontario from mid-February until the end of March. Last year, more than 1,750 volunteer Chartered Professional Accountants helped low-income people receive much-needed tax credits and refunds by preparing more than 13,900 income tax returns.

These Free CPA Tax Clinics operate in co-operation with a variety of agencies - including food banks, hospitals, senior centres and homes, community centres, social service agencies and libraries. The Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario offers additional support to these agencies by providing them with an honourarium based on the number of tax returns prepared.

Reporters are invited to the clinics to learn more about the Free CPA Tax Clinic program, the work of CPAs in your community and the importance of filing tax returns, especially for people with low incomes.
