CPAs Recognize Their Best and Brightest Under 40

CPA Ontario Names 6 ICAO Award of Distinction 2013 Recipients

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 17, 2013) - The Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario is honouring its up and coming young talent with the 2013 Awards of Distinction, which recognizes recipients' past achievements and bright futures. Every two years, the Award of Distinction honours those CPA, CAs who have made an early impact, bringing distinction to themselves and to their profession through leadership and achievement in their professional, community and/or personal lives.

As the award is intended to honour younger CPA, CAs, the age of 40 years has been chosen as a cut-off. As a result, only those CPA, CAs born in 1973 or later were eligible for consideration for 2013.

The ICAO Award of Distinction recipients were chosen following a rigorous nomination and selection process which culminated in a secret-ballot vote of the Council. An Award Review Committee - comprised of five current and former Council members - first evaluated all nominations and made its recommendation on each nominee to assist Council members, who then made their own independent evaluation of the nominees. A two-thirds majority vote of the Council was required to earn an Award.

The recipients demonstrate excellence in a number of areas of service and achievement, including education, promotion of the profession, volunteerism and service to the profession and community, career-related achievements, personal interest activities such as sports and the arts, and other distinctions. Their successes are visible in a combination of their professional and personal life endeavours.

The 2013 recipients of the ICAO Award of Distinction are listed alphabetically below, followed by their locality (where residence and business localities differ, both are shown, in that order).

Timothy G. Deacon, CPA, CA Toronto
Alexandra L. Hardy, CPA, CA Kitchener/Waterloo
Edward W. Hastings, CPA, CA Waterloo
Tiffany L. Laferriere, CPA, CA Sudbury
Camillo Lento, CPA, CA Thunder Bay
Jodie N.S. Lobana, CPA, CA Brampton

In addition to her Award of Distinction, Alexandra Hardy has also been named the Christine E. Sinclair Community Leadership Award winner. Established in 2009, the Christine Sinclair Award recognizes a younger CPA, CA from across the province who has brought distinction to him or herself and to the profession through exceptional leadership in community volunteerism.

Alexandra has lectured at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. She is active in her community in many ways, including serving in a leadership capacity since 2002 with The Child Witness Centre of Waterloo Region, which works with children who have to testify in court as witnesses or victims. The recipient is chosen from those candidates nominated in the same year for the ICAO Award of Distinction. To honour the award recipient, CPA Ontario will donate $2,500 in their name to the registered charity of their choice.

The 2013 recipients of the Award will be honoured on September 19, 2013 as part of the FCPA, FCA presentation ceremony and dinner to be held in Toronto.
